Trash Towers Dictionary
a/c - art crap. CK's fond term for the means of assuaging my addictions.
BSD - Been Seen Done. Devised while travelling the Great Ocean Road on CK's first Australian trip. Every lookout point was as fabulous as the previous and we got a little bit magnificenced out so rather than pull in we would shout BSD and keep driving.
Now general usage for when a situation is over or beyond repair.
bob - noun. Princess Curly- Wurly's word meaning all sweets, chocolate and yummy things.
blurry - (pr. to rhyme with hurry) Sth African/Zimbabwean term and my favourite polite swearword. Means kind of like bloody but usuable in mixed company. See 'Feck' & 'Eejit'
eejit - Irish term meaning 'idiot'. Suitable for use in polite company. Used by my Aunt Marion.
feck - Irish term used by my Aunt Marion so it cannot be rude!
ho-ho -(pr. with a short o). Zimbabwean word for bugs.
lani - (sp?) Sthn African word - means posh, expensive, elegant, stylish.
La Villa de Lamaca - (translates from Ital. as The houseof snails. My 'green' house out in the garden with all my a/c (ref: above) stuff in it. Built by CK and Babyman for me. CK lost his fingerprints over it. I cannot actually get in there at the moment!
lubbard - derived from 'beloved'. Devised by my then two y.o. son b/c unlike his sister he could not say 'Mother Beloved'. Usually prefaced by a noun.
OfStEd - Office for Standards in Education. Bossy civil servants who would like to see every child in formal, full-time education from birth.
Q.I. - Quite interesting.
terence - sobriquet applicable to all small children. Originated with one 'borrowed' child who could not pronounce ' terrorist' .
TG - exclamation. Thank God! An interesting choice for the dictionary of a recovering Catholic but is a phrase used by my Irish family and is now deeply fixed in my conversational repetoire. (reference also PG - Please God).
TGTH - The Great Trip Home. Alt. known as 'How I spent Christmas and N.Y 2008.

Eye Spy...... a work in progress
This is an uber-corny response to this fabulous topic suggestion but it was my first one, so cheesy or not, I have decided to go with it.
OMG! I really am turning into my mother.*
Friday afternoon's run to the post office took a slightly unexpected turn when an opportunity to instill civic pride and good manners into five hilltop teenagers saw me stride forth to their school and discuss the situation with a teacher.
Watch the news for stories of a mid-Victorian house under siege from surly Yr. 10 boys.
I'm just saying is all.
* this sort of act is just the kind of thing which punctuated my childhood. My mother stopping the car and demanding an account of the behaviour exhibited by a group of teenage boys. At least once this involved getting out of her car at the traffic lights, putting her head in through the window of a yob mobile and taking them to task. It is a wonder she lived to see her 'ahemtieth' birthday last December!

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. ...
Today is ANZAC DAY in Australia. A few years ago I was sent a book about the love letters between a family separated by war.
I say family because included are the letters from the children to their father in North Africa. It had many parallels with the experience of my extended family during the Second World War, some of you in Australia may even have seen the programme made by the ABC. When I am feeling brave I read this book, always with a hankie close to hand.
When you have a second spare a thought for all the families of those people who are in a war zone.
Lest we forget.

Ooops! more pictures.
This weekend we are off to the birthday party of one of my ex-children.
I got all inspired and made this cushion cover. I am quite pleased as
a) I made the pattern up as I went along
and
b) I made it from store cupboard staples (except for the cushion pad - there is no room in my lil' cupboard for that. Ask Maria ;-).
You may have heard Maria suggests I laughed because she invented a whole new way of knitting socks. It was more a guffaw of admiration really. But I feel her pain as over a period of several weeks I sent many texts to her, Locket and Lesley bemoaning my inability to count, the general confusion of sock patterns and the weird way I seemed unable to keep track of simple numbers. On more than one occasion the blurry sock and all its octopus needles went flying across the room, through the red fog I heard CK ask if I was really doing this for fun.
It was only last weekend it all began to make sense. You see, I was using the Regia sock pattern-in-a-pamphlet. What you may not know about this is the leaflet contains not just one but TWO sock patterns. Locket's comment when I told her? "Oh? Did I not tell you that?"
This sock is now finished and waiting patiently for its mate AND for me to find it again because I have put it somewhere reeeeeaaaallly safe.
I love that this is how Pr.C-W and destructoBoy spent their holidays :)
However..... are mine the only ones who, despite having been up by 7:00am every single day of the holidays, had to be dragged out of bed at 8:00am first day back at school????

Helllllooooo!!!!!!!!!
Is there anyone still out there?
Through no fault of my own (this time, ahem) the posh whizzy Vaio has been sick for a few weeks and is even currently in hospital at the computer shop. This is the first time in 17 years of knowing CK that he has been unable to fix a breakage on the computer so it must have some serious issues.
This has meant any computering has been done via Jane or Nancy (CK's little handheld Dell Axims) for nearly two weeks now. I have been able to read most blogs (But Pioneer Woman? Your site is soooooooooo huge.) and even comment on a few. Sadly I have been unable to actually blog as neither Jane nor Nancy is happy to share tales of Hilltop life with the wider world. However today CK rigged up the 'dead (I had a bath)' Dell laptop to speak with the Innernets again so HURRAH!! Here I am :-)
It has been a busy few weeks so if you can bear with me I have a picture or two to share over the next few posts.
Most recently - Easter.
For no discernable reason destructoBoy thought this rather yummy chocolate 'babbit' was apt for me ;-)

Easter Monday was rather lovely around here. We did some gardening.
Then before that was the bloggy picnic. Unfortunately I entrusted the camera to Pr. C-W and d/Boy so we only have two pictures of the event, both contain fuzzy images of elbows and knees.
However as I am so late in posting about it there will be pictures on other sites I feel sure. Except Moogsmum. Don't go there, she has doctored a picture to make me look quite odd!
What I can offer you is a photo of the picnic quilt I started to construct to take to sit on. I didn't finish it but on of my ex-children had a lovely time playing tea parties on it while it was laid out to figure out the finished design.

The reflection is in the door of the fireplace.
Way, way back many, many moons ago it was Mother's Day here in the UK. CK asked what I would like to eat. I replied anything I didn't have to make.
Obviously it is a crown. Perhaps the ham is a cape and the pickles/gherkins sceptres? I am unclear as to the role of the Pringles but undoubtedly they are out to further their position at court. Notice how they are cuddling up to the injured pickle?
Then destructoBoy constructed dinner. And I do mean constructed.
This is a birthday present from back in Feb to the ex-child of mine in the tea party picture.
They were jammed tight into all little crevices and while they did come out it was more like eaten jointed rabbit pieces rather than sweet bunny shapes.
And dragonflys!!!!!

It is made up of the charm square assortment I was sent by Kylie. Theoretically it is a dark/light construction but...... towards the end of the initial sewing stage things got a bit lax. Ahem, moving swiftly on ........................
I was given a bunch of flowers by CK one night several many days ago now. He had been away in Madchester for a week having a love-in with all the other boffins in the company so the kids got magazines and bob and I got fleurs.

Princess Curly-Wurly was responsible for lunch.

The baked beans were a beard. I feel he may need to trim the hair in his ears though!!
The (decidely odd) hand of CK can be detected in both these meals

This was were the first tranche of Kylie squares went. I had fun with this and while it will never win awards for any part of its construction she is thrilled with it. And when you are three it really is all about you, don't you know?
Pre-Easter (pre-Lent in fact) I bought this rather gorgeous tin thinking to make rather gorgeous Easter cakes, plus I don't happen to think having five different rabbit-shaped cake tins is excessive. Whatever anyone else may say!

d/Boy and I had a lovely morning at the very beginning of the holidays baking and one of the tins we used was this.
Oh disappointment :-(
They were jammed tight into all little crevices and while they did come out it was more like eaten jointed rabbit pieces rather than sweet bunny shapes.
We forced ourselves to consume the lot though ;-)
On the same day I bought my lubbard flamingo fabric I also found these.

Oh Elumps! I see this becoming the inside to a shopping bag. Just think, there would be no need to ever make a list because as we know - elumps never forget.
My mother bought some of this at Spotlight during TGTH and I kicked myself (metaphorically obviously) I didn't get any. Hurray when I found a bolt in fabric shop in the big town!

Loving the brightness. I may get brave and make this into a slipover type for Princess C-W.
We shall see.....

Oh.
three weeks ago I ordered online LOADS of fabulous Amy Butler fabric (and a few others;-) with which to finish my Fortnums quilt.
AB-Midwest-Modern-Happy-Dots-Ice - 1 yard
Amy Butler-Daisy Chain-8 FQ Fat Quarter Collection
Amy Butler-Ohio Sky Fat Quarter Collection - 20 Fat Quarters
Heather Bailey-Pop Garden Turquoise Fat Quarter
KF Prints Collection Floating Flowers Green GP56 -1 yard
KF Roman-Glass Pastel - 1FQ
MM Ginger Blossom Blossom Buds Breeze - 1 yard
28 FQs of Amy Butler!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh I was getting quite excited at the thought but by last week it hadn't turned up. I emailed chasing the order and didn't hear back. So I rang them and left a message asking for an email response - nothing. I just went to ring again having first checked the time difference (6 hours behind the UK in case you were wondering) and on the website is a note saying 'they have gone out of business and all orders numbered up to 20 before mine will be shipped after that - nothing.' So tough. You are out of luck. Dream on baby because it isn't happening here. So long and thanks for all the fish.
So shall have to replan the fabric choices for my Fortnums quilt. Anyone know of a good deal on Amy Butler blue fat quarters? Anyone?
